Monterey Bay Pipe Band wins WUSPBA award

December 18, 2004, Monterey, CA - The Monterey Bay Pipe Band recently won a prestigious second place award from the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA) for a Grade 4 Pipe Band. The band competed against 33 other pipe bands for this award.

Established in 1962, the Monterey Bay Pipe Band is the only organized band in Monterey County that actively competes throughout the Western United States.

Under the leadership of Pipe Major Michel d'Avenas, the band has been very successful in recent years and received a first-place award at the premier Scottish Highland Games in Pleasanton in 2001, and in 2004, won the California Cup, among many other awards recently.

d'Avenas and other members of the Monterey Bay Pipe Band are planning the first Monterey Bay School of Piping from June 12 through June 17 at Stevenson School, for all ages and skill levels.
