Monterey Bay Pipe Band Wins Top Piping Award At The Sacramento Highland Games

May 18, 2003, Monterey, CA – The Monterey Bay Pipe Band recently won the prestigious first place award at the Sacramento Valley Scottish Highland Games. The band chose a medley of tunes which were performed on the Highland Bagpipe, Snare Drum, Tenor Drum and Bass Drum.

The Monterey Bay Pipe Band recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary, and also received a prestigious 1st place award in 2002 from the Western United States Pipe Band Association (WUSPBA). Established in 1962, the Monterey Bay Pipe Band is the only organized pipe band in Monterey County that actively competes throughout the Western United States. It is a highly respected, award-winning band that frequently performs for private parties and public events, including club and bar performances, parties, weddings, anniversaries, and funerals. Under the leadership of bagpipe instructor and Pipe Major Michel d’Avenas, the band has been very successful in recent years, and received first-place awards at the premier Scottish Highland Games in Pleasanton, California in 200 and numerous First Place Awards at the annual Monterey Scottish Games and Celtic Festival. Six bagpipers from the Monterey Bay Pipe Band were featured recently in a locally produced documentary, “The Healing Pole” which is airing on numerous PBS television stations across the United States.
