The Monterey Bay Pipe Band Wins WUSPBA Award

February 26, 2003, Monterey, CA – The Monterey Bay Pipe Band recently won the prestigious first place award form the Western United States Pipe Band Award (WUSPBA) for a Grade 4 Pipe Band. Established in 1962, the Monterey Bay Pipe Band is the only organized band in Monterey County that actively competes throughout the Western United States. It is a highly respected, award-winning band that frequently performs for private parties and public events. Under the leadership of Pipe Major Michel d’Avenas, the band has been very successful in recent years and received a first-place award at the premier Scottish Highland Games in Pleasanton, California in 2001. Michel d’Avenas has taught bagpiping locally for over 30 years to both youth and adults.
